The New York Bobcats, proud member of the Eastern Hockey League, are proud to announce that the club has re-signed defenseman, and last year’s captain and team MVP, Matthew Araujo to the 2017-18 roster.

Araujo, ’97, was a member of the Long Island Royals NA3AHL team last season, where he won the NA3AHL Championship and Foster Cup.

“I am excited to be back playing for the Bobcats. I really connected with the coaching staff and players here,” Araujo said. “I am looking forward to competing in the EHL and, the exposure that myself and my teammates will get playing in such a great league"

The Brookhaven, NY product also served as captain of the Royals last year, while also leading all defensemen in points with 60 (23G, 37A), good enough for third on the team as well, in 34 games played.

“Matt is a returning player who is a big solid defenseman and a veteran,” said general manager, Jon Zerillo. “He was selected to represent the Royals the last two season in All-Star games, and was also the captain both times. We are really excited to have him back.”

The 6-foot-2 blueliner was selected in the eleventh round of the NAHL draft by the Lone Star Brahmas and the first round by the Texas Jr Brahmas in 2015.

Araujo was also voted the (MJHL) Metropolitan Junior Hockey League 2014-15 Defenseman of the Year and was a multi-year All Star participant.
