Robert O'Gara Drafted by NHL  Boston Bruins

Robert O'Gara has been drafted by the Boston Bruins in the fifth round with the 151st pick of the NHL draft.
O'Gara who  has committed to Yale University  made his final choice from between Harvard, Yale, and Princeton.
"O'Gara is  a 6'3"  185lb. strong two-way defenseman with good hands and a good stick.




Frank  Dichiara Signs With NAHL St Louis Bandits

Long Island Royals Frank Dichiara has been tendered to play for the St. Louis Bandits  in the North American Hockey League.  Dichiara who lead the MET  league in scoring and was the League  MVP has signed with the Saint Louis Bandits for the 2011-2012 season.   Coach Browns' bandits have won NAHL championship 3 out the last 4 years(07,08 and 09), the hope is that the signing of Dichiara along with some key draft picks can help bring them back this coming season to the championship game. Dichiara  has high expectations for his future and when asked about going to the Bandits was quoted as saying, "There is a natural growth in hockey thatyou have to follow. Each step you take leads to another and  the opportunity to play for Coach Brown and one of if not the best organizations in the NAHL is going to help me reach my goal."   

Dichiara who will graduate this year from High School has a 4.0 GPA and is in the top 10% of his class this  Jr Royals players  has a bright future and we hope that the path he is on leads to continued success.

Ruslan Pedan Signs with NAHL Springfield Blues


The Jr Royals 2010-11 defenseman Ruslan Pedan signed with the North American Hockey League Springfield Blues for the 2011-2012 season.   Ruslan's brother Andrey Pedan was a third round draft pick for the NY Islanders this year.


Mike Schwartz Commits to

Nichols College

The Jr Royals are proud to announce that Mike Schwartz has committed to the Bisons of Nichols College for the upcoming 2011/2012 season.  Nichols College is located in Dudley, Massachusetts and is a member of the ECAC Northeast, an eight-member conference at the NCAA Division III level.

Stephen Castriota Commits to
Fredonia Blue Devils

The Long Island Rebels and the Jr. Royals are very proud to announce that standout forward, Stephen Castriota, has committed to the Blue Devils of Fredonia State College for the 2011/2012 season. Fredonia is a member of the SUNYAC Conference, which is arguably the strongest Division III Conference in the United States.  Stephen becomes the fourth player from this year’s New York Bobcats to receive a commitment to play collegiate hockey.  

Stephen went to the Bobcats from the Junior "B" Long Island Royals, where he played during the 08/09 season.  During that season, Stephen was an MJHL All-Star, and finished 4th overall in league scoring.  Prior to joining the Junior “B” Royals, Stephen was a key player for the Long Island Royals Midget Minor 07/08 team, which earned a New York State Tier I Championship and a National Semi-final appearance.  As a Long Island Rebel, he earned a Bantam and Midget Minor NYS Tier II State Championship, which respectively led to Final and Semi-final appearances in the U.S. Nationals.  In addition to his travel youth hockey accomplishments, Stephen earned a Silver Medal with Team Long Island in the 2008 Empire State Games and was a High School Vytra Cup All-Star during the 07/08  and 08/09 seasons.   

Stephen hopes to make an immediate impact on the ice at Fredonia.  He plans to pursue a degree in Business Administration.

Brett Roman Commits to
Suffolk University, Boston

The Jr Royals are proud to announce that goaltender, Brett Roman, has committed to the Rams of Suffolk University for the 2011/2012 season.  Located in the heart of downtown Boston, Suffolk is a Division III program and member of the ECAC Northeast Conference.  Brett becomes the sixth player from this year’s New York Bobcats to receive a commitment to play collegiate hockey.         
 
Having played the most minutes of any goalie on the Bobcats, Brett’s contributions in net played an important role in the team’s overall success this past season.  Appearing in 21 games, he earned a terrific 11-2-2-0-1 record with a .905 save percentage and 3.26 goals against average.   A rookie this past season, Brett battled hard to earn a spot in the regular goalie rotation and was in net during some of the team’s most memorable games, including a 4-4 tie against the New Jersey Hitmen, the EJHL’s top team at the time. The work ethic and focus he displayed on the ice every day was a primary factor in his overall success and improvement throughout the season. 
 
Before joining the Bobcats, Brett was a member of the Long Island Royals 2009/2010 Junior B National Qualifiers.  As their top goalie, he played in 28 games, earning a 19-7-2 record while posting a 2.92 goals against average and .905 save percentage.

PATRICK MARTIN

Niagara Falls, NY-  Head Coach Larry Brzeczkowski is pleased to announce that the team has received a commitment from  defenseman Patrick Martin (Farmingville, NY/ Long Island Royals MJHL Jr. B) . Martin is tremendously gifted blueliner who finished the season sixth in scoring among all defensemen in the MJHL North with 31 points (10g, 21a) in 39 games for his junior team.
 
The 5'11 180lbs defenseman was originally scouted by Assistant Coach Brandon Wright during his time watching several days worth of junior hockey in the Long Island area. The newest Eagle will join the already veteran Niagara blue line which is lead byKevin MorrisonPatrick Roth, and Kevin Zola. Martin will join former teammate and fellow recruit George Antzoulis (Maspeth, NY) as the top two blue line recruits for the team.
 
"We had some big shoes to fill on our blue line left by graduation" commented Associate Coach Clay Miller, "Patrick will help fill these holes. With the addition of Patrick and George along with the great talent we already have on the team, our blue line is young, talented, and are going to continue to grow in to what we all think will be one of the best defensive cores in the ECHL...We filled some holes through recruiting that were left by graduation and we were quite pleased by how several of last years freshman grew throughout the season."
 

Martin is currently undecided on his course of studies.

George Antzoluis (Maspeth, NY/ Long Island Royals MJHL Jr. B) has verbally committed to join the Purple Eagles ACHA team for the 2009-2010 season. George who is 6' 3", 200 lbs, is a solid stay at home defenseman who will add size and toughness to the Purple Eagle's blue line.

Antzoluis has played in  41 games for the Royals so far this season accumulating 11 points (3g,8a) and 146 minutes in penalties. It was during his on campus visit and skate with the team that Antzoluis impressed the coaching staff and was offered a roster spot for the next season at the conclusion of his trip.

Head Coach Larry Brzeczkowski who has had a long tradition of recruiting players from the tri-state area is excited at the prospects of having two very talented hockey players from a well respected organization such as the Long Island Royals joining next years recruiting class.

George plans on studying Business Management while at Niagara.
